Well…I guess it had to happen eventually. The very first Twilight video game. And somewhat ironically, it’s published by a company known for a very different sort of vampire. To further add to the weirdness, instead of controlling how sparkly Edward Cullen can be via the DS Stylus, it’s a trivia game. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Scene It Twilight.
At its most base form, Scene It Twilight is a Trivia game centering around the Twilight films. In a quite surprising decision, all the questions focus around the first Twilight movie – and has no content relevant to the New Moon movie. As such, the game flow is simple – there are four rounds of questions, containing multiple choice questions, gimmick questions (where you’ll need to use the stylus), questions involving clips from the movie…and that’s pretty much it.
In terms of question set, they’re designed in such a way that you’ll need to have watched the movie at least a couple of times to pick up on some of the nuances. The best example was when I was given one of the “watch a clip” questions – wherein Bella was prepping dinner with the Cullen family. The question was to correctly choose what was the line said next by an off screen character. It’s a minor thing, but at the same time, why choose a question about it? Sure, the Twilight fans will immediately pick up on it, but for everyone else – it just seems silly.

Really, I could've posted a screenshot of the game, but this one image pretty much summed up my experiences playing the game
Really, there isn’t much else to say about the game – since there’s almost nothing to it. You can pick from a number of different characters to act as your player character, though it doesn’t amount to more than being a substitute for naming the different players. There are unlockables, but they're nothing more than just promo stills for the film - which you could look up online for free and save yourself the time needed to unlock them!
The best method of fun to be had here is the ‘pass & play’ multiplayer; and even then, it may be a bit of a chore – seeing as to have the best possible experience, you'll need to be very much into the whole Twilight saga and have watched the film a few times. Sure, you could just guess your way through all the questions, but where’s the fun in that? Oh, and there aren't that many questions, so repeated questions come very quickly.
Visually, the game is just bland. The movie clips look nice and what not, but at the same time, that’s just about it. Everything looks too boring or too plain to not scream exciting. It’s very reminiscent of a DVD menu, which isn’t surprising – given the origins of the game. But at the same time, it doesn’t work well enough on the DS. Sure, it doesn’t distract – and that’s a plus, but it just feels boring. The same can be said aurally. It’s bland as all hell. The music isn’t interesting, which is great – as it doesn’t distract, but at the same time, it’s nothing. Ditto the sound effects. See a pattern here?

Scene It Twilight is bland as all hell. Sure, while it’s cool to have a movie trivia game on the DS, this just feels like a missed opportunity. It looks boring, plays boring and sounds boring. I do suspect that if you’re a big fan of the series, then you’ll elicit some enjoyment out of the game – but that may be shortlived. Otherwise, best to wait for a proper Scene It release to hit the DS.
