Nintendo Shop Updates: March 5th

Posted 5th of March, 2010 at 01:33 pm by Lucario Lucario is offline

Welcome to this weeks instalment of Nintendo Shop Updates, eight new titles are available today on WiiWare and DSiWare. For non English speaking European countries Nintendo have also released New English Training: Learn with Tempo Advanced Edition for 800 Points which as you'd expect, teaches you how to speak in English.

Title: Zaxxon
System: Virtual Console
Price:
500 Nintendo Points
Wh... What is this Virtual Console you speak of? Oh right, well you can blame me for forgetting considering the lack of additions lately. Zaxxon is a classic title developed by Sega and has been ported several times in the past due to its popularity, luckily for us this is the original (and best) arcade version. You basically take control of an aircraft and must fly around whilst dodging enemies and projectiles, there are three stages and you constantly play through them but each time getting harder and harder. Though it sounds generic enough, the game is viewed on an angle making things more unique and visually pleasing.

Title: BIT.TRIP VOID
System: WiiWare
Price:
600 Nintendo Points
In this third instalment to the series you're in control of a void which can freely move around the screen, you grow bigger as you collect black pixels and the bigger you become the more points you score. Watch how big you grow though because you'll need to dodge the white pixels that are also flying around the screen. As you'd expect from the series, the title features a retro experience with some old school tracks.

Title: Mega Man 10
System: WiiWare
Price:
1000 Nintendo Points
In the year 20XX a mysterious robot flu has begun to spread causing all infected robots to turn evil. People are lost having to live their lives without the assistance of robots on which they've grown accustom to for many years. It is up to Mega Man to find what is causing this virus to spread so rapidly and to find a cure before he himself becomes infected.

Title: Dark Void Zero
System: DSiWare
Price:
500 Nintendo Points
Capcom's cancelled Dark Void prequel has been brought back to life and has finally made its way to a console via DSiWare. Providing a back story to Dark Void on the PC, PS3 and 360, the title is similar to Metroid as you explore planets and the various locations each contains, shooting enemies and locating key cards to unlock new routes. You can get a jet pack which allows you to fly around, this can come in handy when facing off against the several bosses which inhabit the game. Develoepd using classic 8 bit graphics, it appears Capcom want to bring the success of Mega Man to the DSi with this new action adventure title.

Title: Flips The Bubonic Builders
System: DSiWare
Price:
500 Nintendo Points
Weird builder guys want to renovate the girls toilets at a primary school but a young boy called James doesn't think things are as they seem... sounds borderline creepy right? Well it isn't at all considering this is a children's ebook which offers various forms of fun interaction. EA Games released this title along with a bunch of other books in the series as a retail release and have decided to chop up the game and sell each section individually via DSiWare. Young ones will get a kick out of it and it's a great way to get kids to read however if you're over 12 then stick with physical books.

Title: Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon
System: DSiWare
Price:
500 Nintendo Points
Greek Mythology seems to be all the rage at the moment with the recent Percy Jackson film and it seems Nintendo want to get in on it. This Nintendo developed title (from the people that brought you Metroid Prime: Pinball) offers a classic pinball experience but with an ancient Greek twist. Zeus has sent you on mission to complete various quests, receive gifts from the 12 Olympian gods and banish enemies like Medusa all by playing pinball. The graphics are clear and colourful and thanks to the two DS screens, you can view the whole table at the same time.

Title: Real Football 2010
System: DSiWare
Price:
800 Nintendo Points
An updated version of the previously released Real Football 2009, this title offers over 245 clubs across 8 leagues to play as and each features almost every player currently enlisted. The graphics are in full 3D and you can challenge friends via local wireless. Play as the coach and make tactical decisions as you travel the world with your team completing against the leagues best in famous stadiums.

Title: Globulos Party (Europe Only)
System: DSiWare
Price:
500 Nintendo Points
Featuring a bunch of colourful little round blobs, you play through 20 minigames but each features the same mechanics. You press on one of your little guys and drag the stylus in the direction you want them to move, the longer the line, the further they go. This basic gameplay is used to get through all the minigames from wrestling to soccer as you face off against an opposing team but you wont know which direction they'll move in until you've decided.

Finally whilst at the Wii Shop Channel, be sure to update your Wii Channels which have all received updates for some reason.

An excellent week of releases for WiiWare and DSiWare, without a doubt. It's pleasing to see the delay with Bit.Trip VOID was minimal, and MegaMan 10 coming out so close to the American release is to be applauded. Looks like I'll be spending those Nintendo Points this week after all.

It's a shame to see the Virtual Console suffering from continuous neglect, however. :\

IIRC, the European Wii Channels did not receive the same update which the Americans (and presumably the Japanese) did on the 14th of December last year. These updated versions are a part of the "Preview Channels" system for newly released Wii Consoles, allowing the actual channel to be downloaded more easily. No other prominent changes have been identified.
