Cursed Mountain developer goes under

Posted 31st of January, 2010 at 11:09 am by Infernal Monkey Infernal Monkey is offline

Formed in 2006, Deep Silver Vienna has already been closed down by parent company Koch Media. The developer's first - and only - title was the Wii-exclusive horror adventure Cursed Mountain. The game sold miserably.

"This decision is not easy for us," Koch said in a statement, going on to mention the current economic situation. Deep Silver Vienna's staff of 20 will be paid until March before being let go. It's hoped that some will land new positions in Koch Media.

Rumours suggest that co-founder Hannes Seifert has already secured a role at Square Enix Europe.

I KNEW there was some game starting with C that I couldn't remember which I meant to try and find on the shelves while I was out at the shops yesterday!

I'm so glad they changed the box art.

Also, sad news.

Did Cursed Mountain ever come out in Australia? I ended up importing it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw it in JB last week. And there were like, a million copies...

Did the game turn out to be good?

It was a pretty interesting game, it wasn't the most polished title, but dam at the end of the day it had an interesting story, looked good, played alright and was worth the money I paid for it. Defently worth picking up.

That sucks. I haven't played it but my friend said its pretty excellent. I'm pretty sure I saw it the other day for about 30-40 bucks. I would have got it if I wasn't strapped for cash :(

Yeah, Madman released it here. It's down to like $30 at JB. Interesting game, personally I enjoyed it but there's mixed opinions. Some found it way too slow for their liking, which is fair enough.

I think EB might also be stocking it, but eh, it's probably full price there.

Sad news, I really enjoyed the game.
As mentoned above, it was a bit rough around the edges but the story, setting and atmosphere are excellent. Pick it up if you can, well worth the $30 price tag.

Cursed Mountain got mostly average reviews but ive been watching videos of people playing it on youtube and it actually doesnt look half bad so i say pick it up cheap or give it a rental if you can. Youve gotta commend deep silver for actually doing a new third person survival horror game on Wii when Capcom and EA seem content to just stick us with on rails shooters that nobody wants and then complain when they dont sell like their third person ps3/360 counterparts.

I don't know what they expected would happen with a game called Cursed Mountain with an absolutely terrible boxart, on the Wii and with zero marketing. Do people never learn?

That truly sucks. From what I hear, Cursed Mountain was actually a pretty decent game. Must have been that damn cover art font!

I'm glad I got my copy for so cheap. It's a very unusual game that I think anyone sick of the usual adventure/FPS games will enjoy. I might play through it again soon...

Yeah, I bought this on Saturday for thirty bucks. It's pretty slow at the start, but I must say, I just started the second chapter, and I am intrigued. It's nice to have something that's got an unsettling mood to it - and you get to kill ghosts with a pick axe!

And really, that's what life's all about, isn't it.
