Goodness, it would seem Australian developer Torus Games announced this about a month ago, but the internet just didn't pick up on it. Being an Atari Lynx-related news piece, I'm here to spread the word. Better late than never, eh?
Torus is bringing the Crystal Mines IP back for a brand new DS game. The series initially started off as an unlicenced NES title. It did well enough for a sequel to be made for the Lynx - dooming it to obscurity. Crystal Mines is heavily influenced by Boulder Dash (which has also seen a rebirth on DS), but its unique additions made it a much deeper experience.
Crystal Mines for DS has you in control of a robot that has to dig and shoot its way through 311 levels; collecting crystals, avoiding falling rocks, setting traps for enemies, solving puzzles and trying to find the exit before the timer runs out.
HES will publish Crystal Mines, and it should be out by Christmas. At the moment it looks like this one could be an Australian-exclusive release.
