Sega have today shed some light on their latest creation codenamed Project Needlemouse which is a 2D Sonic game set for release next year. Not much was revealed in the short presentational video shown, Sega does however mention that "speed returns" and that it was "built from the ground up".
When asked why Sega decided to return to their roots, they stated that it is simply something fans have been asking for and that they want to deliver. The final hint extracted from Sega was that the game will feature HD graphics not chunky sprites from last decade.
Who knows what console this title will appear on, we can only hope it's for WiiWare, Project Needlemouse will arrive sometime in 2010 so stay tuned.

Haha, good one Lucario. Sega have dropped the HD bomb. Wii will get something compromised, if anything.

Since the Wii can only support up to 480p/480i, we won't see the game in HD. Considering the game is supposedly going back to it's roots with 2D gameplay, perhaps WiiWare might see a release, if it were scaled down to 480p. It won't be HD, but like Bhaskar24 mentioned, it'll be a compromise.
Interestingly enough, the Wii emulator can supposedly output 720p.
lol the SDLC. In time, we'll see if the current model needs to be modified.

| Isn't this the start of the cycle where Sega says the new Sonic game will return the series to its root and everyone forgets the million times they've said it in the past and failed miserably to deliver and of course end up disappointing saying they will never believe Sega or in Sonic ever again? Oh wait that's what the 3D games are... |

personally I think another 2D one is a good idea, cause getting" back to the roots" may actually bring some old fans who don't like the new ones back to the series, I like some new ones, but msot are boring money grabbers. Just what I think.

You can do some sexy things on the PS3/360 if you restrict yourself to 2D.

If this game is any good then I'll do something publicly embarrassing on this forum.
^ This is one of the safest bets I'll ever make.
