Australian Software Sales Charts for January 11

Posted 14th of January, 2009 at 10:45 pm by Nick Nick is offline

Back to normal edition. Seven of the top 10 titles belong on Nintendo's platforms still, with a new entry by CoD: World at War on PC/Mac. Wii Play remains on top while Mario & Sonic is erroneously shown as a new entry. Each to their own, but I'm sure I've seen it in the top 10 before.

More Brain Training has also been up there before. Resistance has moved up a notch while Gears, Animal Crossing, Guitar Hero and Sonic Unleashed have all faded, replaced with some not so exciting substitutes. Will we see the quality step up a little as this year progresses?

Nice to see the (deserving) Mario Kart still performing well.

Thanks to GfK for their charts!

New entry means it wasn't there last week, not that it hasn't been in the top 10 before

Ugh, this is seriously becoming really predictable.

It's always the same casual-minded games plus a splash of shovelware.

Yeah, casual gamers pretty much keep the Australian vidya game market alive.

Wii Play, huh. I refuse to get that but it's interesting how my cousins who have Wiis have it. Guess the casual audience really love it.

(Anyone else find it boring like me?)

Considering it only costs $5-$10 more than a Wii Remote by itself, it's no surprise it dominates the charts. New Wii owners who want a second controller are obviously gonna try and get that pack.

Also the air hockey game is pretty awesome. :]

Also Tanks! and the duck hunt bit. Many a heated battle between me and my sister to out-score the other. And laughter as she loses by three points or something.

Considering the price point, if you were after a Wii Remote you'd be silly not to buy the Wii Play bundle (unless you already have it, of course). It's not fantastic by any means, but it's still fun and worth the little extra on top of the Remote.

Whoa! I somehow completely forgot about Tanks! They should release a new one on WiiWare with online multiplayer or something (and Wii Speak support)

"I'M A TANK"
"NO, I'M A TANK"
"Oh yeah? Come here a minute"
"You come here a minute"
"Oh yeah?"

The reduction of the price did it. It could be found at retail for about $50.

Not true. See here, where Brain Training pops up at number 10, having moved up to that position from a place obviously lower before, and also having been in the top 10 prior, not shown then as a new entry.

GfK are a little inconsistent here with new entries versus returners. It's always been the case on odd occasions, not just this week.

I picked up Wii Play with the remote for $70, so the disc was pretty much "free". I've seen it around for $70 still, so I'm guessing that's why people are choosing that option whenever they want their 2nd controller.

Back when I got my remote, it was cheaper to buy it with Wii Play (Wii Play was $64, stand alone Wiimote was $70) so yea saved $6 and got the awesomeness of Tanks!
