Video Special: Charles Martinet talks to Aussie-Nintendo

Posted 10th of September, 2009 at 12:30 pm by Will Will is offline

Charles Martinet, The Voice of Mario, made the first of three Australian appearances at the Nintendo Experience at EB Games in Melbourne yesterday, meeting, greeting and signing autographs for fans.

Despite the event running considerably overtime due to the fantastic turnout, Martinet managed to spend some time with Aussie-Nintendo.com to answer some of your questions, mostly pertaining to the journey of his career, before finishing with a special message to members of A-N.

Please watch on for two videos as part of this special feature - you can see some footage from the event in the first one and the full interview in the second.

Thanks to everyone who submitted questions and thanks to Charles Martinet and Nintendo Australia! PS. check back soon for a special competition ;-)

He's definitely done the hard yards and has a massive body of work, even though it's low profile stuff mostly. I was so unsurprised to hear about his unwillingness to give-in to rejection - fantastic!

That's most likely the best exclusive A-N's ever had. Big props to Captain for getting it organised and even bigger thanks to Charles Martinet, what an interesting, great guy!

Such a friendly fellow, it was a pleasure to finally meet him and I wish him all the best!

That was a brilliant video interview, much better than most of the Charles Martinet interviews out there on the net - I'm still in awe of his stamina and energy after that event; he would have had the whole of Sydney to contend with today.

A big Thank you to Captain and all those who made this possible!

Unfortunantly I missed out on attending this event as it was cold and my body went into hiberation mode. By the time I was up and out of bed, I didn't have enough time to make the trip. Dern 2 hour trip, if only I lived closer to the city! xD

Still, nice to see the interview. There's an awesome guy behind those voices we love so much. =D

I was out last night. So I was like very tired this morning.

I was almost thinking of not going then I saw your feature and i'm starting to think

"you know this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. And it be cool to meet the guy."
I managed to leave at around about 1pm. I was a bit worried I wouldn't make it. Cause my train got delayed by 10 mins. But I got there by around 2pm and they just closed the queue like 10 mins after I was like the second last one."

Li8ne was shorter than I thought it be then i found out it was kind of packed at one. So I was like on of the lucky ones still took roughly an hour for me anyway.

I got my Super Mario Galaxy game signed. And my custom made Mario hat signed. Which willl both now be held onto for the ages. I would of liked to get a photo but I forgot my Camera. I thought they have the picture taking there anyway.

Other then that got to ask him a few questions....

What's the hardest voice for you or all they all easy?
Answer: He says they're all pretty easy but if there's a hard one it's Wario's. Cause he has to go deep.

How did you get into this, Did you audition for the role?
Answer: He said he crashed the audition like 20 years ago.

So maybe a producer saw it or something and submitted him to Nintendo.

Great guy. Good to meet. Glad I did.
I told him I was tempted to wear my Sonic T shirt.....
And he was like "oh, why didn't you?"

I saw a few dresser ups. I saw Gamespot there and I saw a guy who dressed up as Little Mac.

just saw your interview. Good questions. Nice to know he's an actor and all. I'd probably should of told him I was an Actor and looking for some pointers lol.

I went today to the Sydney one dressed as Agent derek from Elite Beat Agents, JPW you should have told me you were going! Me and Gooks spent the day together. We ran into Infernal a couple of times but lol I don't think he knew who I was. It's ok infernal, <3.

Hes a really nice guy, so positive and enthusiastic. It was an honor to meet him. I took some rad photos and got a video of him saying 'AWwww why do I always lose!' in Luigi's voice, ill be posting those up soon lol!

I got him to sign my copy of Galaxy, but the photos are what i went there for.

EDIT: DUDE JPW, little mac was Gookenheimer lololololol I was the suited guy next to him

And i also saw the boys from Gamespot, I got a couple of photos with them lol.

"lol im mercury adept on that nerdy site you knowz?"

I attended the Sydney Myer event today, I was dressed as Wario, with a massive Pink Play-Doh nose. :p
Charles was a really nice guy, now I have a custom Wario ringtone for my phone, and for Infernal Monkey, He wrote "Imma Gonna Win" Then he wrote "Wario", then signed his name, with a weird smiley face on my WarioWare: Smooth Moves ;)

Were you the one there with the pink girl in the dress with black hair? I was right behind you the whole time, the one in the suit lol.

I think I remember seeing you. You had the suit and the hat and everything.

Me and the guy behind me saw you and we were like.... "who's that guy supposed to be?"
"Oh looks it's Little Mac, that's good advertising.... hopefully he might sell some copies today"

I remember seeing a Wario was that you Clash.....? He did the voice for you and such as you got up.

Oh my god small world. I should try introducing myself to the dress ups might actually be guys from here. I always think they're weirdos. No offence i've dressed up a few times too it's cool.
Didn't have the guts today though.

I was just facing Aero in Brawl and it looks like I got a good luck charm from Charles cause my Wario and Mario were kickass today.

Haha, don't think so. He was a fair bit further ahead in the line, wasn't dressed up or anything. I liked your nose, thought it was a bought plastic thing or something til I was close enough to see the cracks :P Saw you guys come out of one of the buildings on the street, figured it was a sign we were headed in the right direction.

Will post photos and tales soon as possible. Anybody heading to the Saturday one?

Nothing beats walking out of the Hilton in a Wario outfit! I live about 2 1/2 hours away from Sydney, so we drove up there especially for the event.

Holy crap, I just noticed your location. I trained it to Nowra once, then drove back. Sure, it went quick on the way down because I was playing Dementium. But it still took forever. Major dedication.

Also I *just*remembered seeing a Play-Dough pot in someone's Mario bag. It literally only just clicked then that it must've been yours :P I was wondering at the time why they'd be putting that as part of the goodies...

Next time I think that you should just ask the questions, like in-video, as the fading to the questions kind of made it seem very slow. If the audio was bad, then you could've put the question in like, a pop-up subtitle.

Cool interview though.
